IIPM School B - debate on competition
In the beginning (about 4000 years ago), God was only known as the supreme power, and the King Solomon built the first temple of God in Israel today (in the 9th century BC). God could not exist on this earth without the influence of a powerful king! Another king Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon destroyed the first temple of God around 586 BCE. Of course, had different ideas about God! During this period, Judaism, with his idea of a Supreme God, began to spread throughout Asia Minor, West Asia, and Western Europe. Then, during the days of the Roman Empire there were many pagan gods with human characteristics. He worshiped idols and led policy of most religious thought.
Then Jesus went with his idea of monotheism but it was not until 3rd century AD that Christianity spread widely across the European continent. Almost three hundred years after Jesus Christ death, Constantinople, the Roman Emperor adopted Christianity and announced that as the state religion. His work continued for other rulers, as a Byzantine Teodosio I, which closed all the temples and forbade worship of idols. So once again, the kings ruled that religious bodies must go on! Then the whole powerful Catholic Church was burned (or hidden) which is famously known as Gnostic writings that basically says that God exists everywhere and you do not necessarily needs to go to a church to worship God. Of course, if these deeds spread to the masses, the very foundation of the Catholic Church have been shaken.
Today, in contemporary India, despite having a general idea of all the Brahma or a higher power Upanishad rooted in a particular party attempts politicians to stir up emotions explode the religious sentiments of the majority. In other countries, the religion of the majority is pushing for the minority. Continued. He's gone in the last four thousand years or more.
If religion is not driven by political reasons, then what else?
On the other hand, religion is our super-ego or according to some literature, gives strength to our ego. Religion keeps us in a cell ethical boundaries. It allows us to live in peace and harmony. In essence, preach religious scriptures lifestyles. It tells us what to do when faced with an ethical dilemma. Religion gives us the direction to what is proverbially called "moksha" or liberation. Moksha means freedom for all our prejudices and desires that lead to disharmony. Moksha means to achieve perfect harmony.
All this and more were discussed in the debate competition which saw some of the best students from IIPM Ahmedabad fight fiercely each other in front of the jury panel aninteresting. The jury of Adhyatmananda Swami, President of Sivananda Ashram, Vinod Ninam, Secretary of State of the youth wing of the Samata, and Diti Vyas, a scholar with a deep interest in religion.
