What say didnÂ't Harvard School of scripts is that the hero's journey is the template on which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based on an understanding of this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.
Most people familiar with this structure history is perceived as a "search Theory.Â" That is, you can see how it can be a model for stories like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings Jason and the Argonauts and so on, but resist the idea that explains or is the basis behind other stories like "Million Dollar Baby (Best Picture Oscar winner 2004).
In fact, if you deconstruct the Academy Award winners (Best Actor) in recent decades, they quickly realize that all are based around the hero's journey template. That is, in fact, just a story.
The following is a basic deconstruction of Million Dollar Baby (winner of Oscar Best Picture 2004):
Call to adventure - where the hero is pushed to resolve a challenge. Maggie needs to escape his roots and Frankie White Trash has to resolve issues relating to her daughter.
Refusal of call where there is rejection, resistance, warning and foreboding. Frankie refuses to train Maggie.
A supernatural aid, where a mentor encourages the hero along the path. Eddie (Morgan Freeman) begins to help Maggie with her training guides while Frankie to her. As usual, the supernatural aid has a challenge of its own (Danger Barch).
First a threshold, where it crosses a point of no return. Maggie persists in the gym. There is no dissuading her or return to it.
Physical separation (Belly of the Whale) Â-where the hero separates physically from his old world and is aimed at the transformation. Willie leaves Frankie, who has little to do but train Maggie.
Transformation (Road Test) Â-where the hero significantly, but not completely, transforms. Maggie becomes a professional boxer.
The ideal and the seizure of the sword, where the hero faces a difficult choice and journey to the (often heart) the antagonism. Maggie buys a house and assumes the Frank family parenting role.
Renaissance Through death, where the hero is reborn. Danger Barch guard Eddie Hector gym, Maggie does not know what to do with the bear.
Atonement with the Father, where the hero confronts the obstacle to the apotheosis. Maggie loses the blue bear.
Apotheosis-Â where the hero is the lighting. Maggie should have listened to Frank and protected itself.
Ultimate Boon Â-both hero and heroine to a family.
Rejection of the A-Back, where the protagonist is shunned by his former or, on a practical level, there is a rejection on some level. Frankie refuses to return to the gym.
Magic Flight-Â where the hero tries to escape from the antagonism or, for some reason, is unable to cope. Frankie takes Maggie away and attempts to find doctors who can reverse the situation.
Absence of a rescue, where the hero retreats into its challenges. Return of Maggie's family, Frankie wants replace them and resists their arrival.
Crossing the return of a threshold, where the hero faces hostility. Maggie loses her legs and asks Frankie to kill her.
Master of the A-Two Worlds where the antagonism is defeated. Frankie kills Maggie.
Freedom to live one, 'where the protagonist is free of antagonisms. Frankie does not return to gym.
