How To Get Offer Investment Banking
As we move into the summer season of practices, many have asked me why we can get interviews, but never manages to get actual bids.
Normally, without a hook. To get a job in investment banking, is not sufficient to demonstrate that can do the job and have a serious interest in him.
You have to show they need you more than you need.
Of course, this never true. You're just a resource. They are a company of $ 100 billion. But a hook makes them think differently, at least temporarily.
What is A hook?
A hook makes you stand out from others. It can be extremely enthusiastic about the work he did to email them 59 days in a row. But I'm just a normal person, how can I get a hook?
A good tactic is to make a connection with your interviewer who have similar interests, ask questions on any topic you like, or have friends / alumni in common.
This requires research in advance and is not always possible. But when you can do it, it works well.
He went to his interviewer the Marines? Maybe your brother / cousin / uncle was too much. Was he in the industry in which his father / cousin / uncle works? At the same undergraduate school?
Nobody wants you until someone wants to have you (and everyone Wants You)
Everything is high school again.
Another "hook": convince the company that has deals on other investment banks. When you know that others want, they will be afraid they are missing something and want more.
The correct answer to "Are you interviewing with other companies?" NEVER: "No." Even if you are, never say "no". Just be vague and say they are interviewing and considering several options.
If you are indeed the interview successfully with other companies, mention the names - This works especially well if they are competitors. Names of any of the media package when interviewing with a support package, for example, would give a boost.
Worst Case Scenario
