Most fitness curriculums attempt to drill children into shape without teaching them fitness concepts and values. Teaching Children Fitness presents teachers with the why and how of teaching children physical fitness in a developmentally appropriate way. In Part I the authors explain why it is important to teach children fitness, suggests ways to adapt content to particular teaching situations, present an overview of the curriculum content, discuss principles to follow when teaching fitness, and present ideas for assessing children's progress in fitness. Bringing teaching principles into practice is the focus of Part II. The authors show teachers how to present physical fitness in fun and meaningful ways with 19 practical, child-tested examples of fitness activities (Learning Experiences) ideal for Grades pre-K through 6.
