Masters Of Arts

Archangels were a common inspiration of art by the late Middle Ages until the end of the Renaissance period. Like the angels who played a central role in many biblical stories, the four archangels - Gabriel, Uriel, Raphael and Michelangelo were prominent in the religious tradition of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, although its functions were often documented in the apocryphal writings.
The best known representation of the archangel Michael is located in the Santa Maria della Conception, in the first chapel. The work is, from the Renaissance painter Guido Reni, who favored the Baroque style of great that evolved from the edict of the Roman Catholic Roman religious art that should be involved with the commoner dramatic and emotional appeal. The sample Reni Archangel Michael blond, androgynous angel standing on Satan their feet firmly planted in the devil's head, forcing him to land. The painting depicts a scene from the book of Revelation, where the Archangel Michael command of an Angel Army against the devil and tie it for 1000 years. It is often referred to as the Archangel Michael Slaying the Devil.
The Messenger of God, the angel Gabriel who told him the Virgin Mary she would bear a child of God. This biblical event known as The Annunciation, and is a common theme of Renaissance art. Two works stand out iconic paintings on the subject. Da Vinci, The Annunciation was painted from 1472-1475 and is credited both Da Vinci and his mentor Andrea del Verrocchio. In the painting he kneels before the Archangel Gabriel to Mary, a lily in his hand to symbolize Mary's virginity.
Cestello Botticelli Annunciation, commissioned in 1489, Annunciaton event shows the same with similar themes. The painting is characterized by its use of perspective in paintings lead the eye to the landscape. The paintings of Botticelli Gabriel with the mouth open, to represent their words of the Gospel of Luke which were added as part of the original paintings. Today both paintings can be seen in the Hall of Uffizi in Florence, Italy.
The angel Raphael was captured more frequently in oil as the guardian of Tobit's son Tobias, during his stay to recover money his father had hidden, a passage from the Book of Tobit. Her role as god of healing and protector is evident in these paintings that show him head of the child by the hand. Filippino Lippi version of Tobias and the angel can be seen at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC Rembrandt took great interest in the book of Tobias and the Archangel Raphael, making it a frequent subject of his work.
Da Vinci created two nearly identical paintings titled Virgin of the Rocks or Virgin of the Rocks. The picture shows a scene in which the infant Jesus meets his cousin John the Baptist as an infant. In paintings, the Archangel Gabriel is sitting to the left of Mary holding the infant Jesus. Subtle variations can be seen in two paintings by Da Vinci. The version that hangs in the Louvre, Uriel points to John. In the version of the work exhibited at the National Gallery in London, Mary, Jesus and John are halo. Dan Brown 'The Da Vinci Code has brought controversy to these two paintings on behalf of fiction, however, - art historians assume that the original Uriel points to John, who is closer to Mary has created confusion and the second box of Da Vinci eliminated this gesture.

![]() Chicano Art Inside/Outside the Master's House: Cultural Politics and the CARA Exhibition Sale Price: $29.95 Eligible for free shipping!Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours See Reviews For This Product DescriptionIn the early 1990s, a major exhibition--Chicano Art: Resistance and Affirmation, 1965-1985--toured major museums around the United States. As a first attempt to define and represent Chicano/a art for a national audience, the exhibit attracted both praise and controversy, while raising fundamental questions about the nature of multiculturalism in the U.S. This book presents the first interdisciplinary cultural study of the CARA exhibit. Alicia Gaspar de Alba looks at the exhibit as a cultural text in which the Chicano/a community affirmed itself not as a "subculture" within the U.S. but as an "alter-Native" culture in opposition to the exclusionary and homogenizing practices of mainstream institutions. She also shows how the exhibit reflected the cultural and sexual politics of the Chicano Movement and how it serves as a model of Chicano/a popular culture more generally. Drawing insights from cultural studies, feminist theory, anthropology, and semiotics, this book constitutes a wide-ranging analysis of Chicano/a art, popular culture, and mainstream cultural politics. It will appeal to a diverse audience in all of these fields. |
