Some online diplomas will be viewed as equal to diplomas from traditional schools, others will be considered greatly inferior. It all depends on what kind of online school you go to. An online program that is run through a traditional, regionally accredited school is the best bet. If you enroll in a school like this, chances are your diploma will be the exactly the same as those of students who attended classes on the physical campus. If you choose a school that is only online, make sure that it is accredited by the proper regional association. Degrees from schools that are not accredited, or are accredited by an organization that isn't one of the six regional agencies, will probably not be viewed as legitimate by other schools and employers. If you want to use your diploma for furthering your education or advancing in your career, check to make sure it will be accepted by others.
There is no ranking right now for different online schools. In general, you should check the rankings for the regular school to get an idea of how reputable the online program is. They use the same teachers and many of the same resources, often even the same basic lesson plans, so that should be your first guide in selecting a program. For MBA programs, you should look at the school profiles compiled by Business Week. They don't rank the programs, but there's enough information there to tell you whether a program is good and right for you:
